Success story of the Kerstfest brands
The Kerstfest stamps auctioned in the e@uction and public auction of Auktionshaus Felzmann were a success all along the line. A cancelled "Kerstfest" stamp (lot 12320) as well as a complete foil sheet with ten wet-adhesive stamps of this misprint (lot 12319) attracted great attention from visitors and the media alike at the Essen stamp fair. Bidders from home and abroad, including the USA and Australia, vied for this unique foil sheet. One commission agent had two telephone bidders at the same time. The surcharge of € 1,500 for the used single stamp on cover was by far topped by the mint foil sheet: the top item was auctioned for the sensational surcharge of € 27,500.
Ulrich Felzmann, who had already gained some experience with new "unissued" stamps with the famous Audrey Hepburn stamps, which were also withdrawn, already suspected that they would make big waves, but even he had not expected such hype and this surcharge.
