Africa Postage Stamps

Immerse yourself in a special piece of postal history and discover the charm of the "Horn of Africa". This special collection was presented in a special catalogue for the 160th Felzmann auction.

Horn of Africa

Extensive offer from five stamp collecting areas of Africa

Sometimes you have the great fortune to be able to auction not one, but two special collections from an accomplished collector. Thus, after the great success of the "Waizero" collection from our 158th auction, we were able to present the "Horn of Africa" collection to our customers for the 160th auction.

Geographically close together, "Horn of Africa" offers an equally extensive and multi-faceted range of five different collecting areas, each of which is outstanding in its own right. From the beginnings of postal transport in the region through camel mail to airmail in the modern era, the collection covers a wide-ranging piece of postal history. Each of the collecting areas stands for sensibly thought-out collecting passion and inspires an international field of collectors and enthusiasts. The last time covers of this kind were available to a broad public on the market was 40 years ago. The special auction offered the chance to acquire very rare pieces fresh from the market.

Outstanding postal history - covers of the East African War

The collection "Horn of Africa" is a niche area with outstanding postal history and contains special features such as covers of the East African War 1941-1945, which are divided into the three chapters Postmarks, Red Cross and Prisoners of War. In addition, the Obock/Djibouti collection area of French postal history is represented, which surprises with particularly rare frankings. The area of Ethiopia, known from the Waizero collection, was also prominently covered by Airmail and A.O.I.. Small but nice is shipmail Massaua-Aden-Suez with one of three postmarks known worldwide on cover/whole piece. The offer was rounded off by covers of Italian postal history from Italian Eritrea, which surprised with their detailed structure.
